Livingston Theatre company | December 2023
Diresctor: Sydney Forrester Wilson
Loosely based on the 1896 opera La Bohème, Rent chronicles a year in the life of a group of friends living in Alphabet City, on the Lower East Side of New York City circa 1996.
The themes of this show will carry over forever. This show is about activism, whether it be equal access to housing, or the destigmatization of HIV and AIDS, and the need to fight for the lives of those who you love. This show is about art and expression. As an artist, this show truly shows what it's all about. Finding your inspiration, your lifeblood, your fill, from the people around you, and the ways they impact you. It’s about youth, this show speaks to the age everyone involved in this process was.
We are sufficient and self-sustaining. We are wild and wounded, and we love so hard it hurts. But above all else, this show is about connection. Friendships, found families, and love in all its many forms. The ability to look at the people around you and know that they will be with you through all the cycles of your life.
